Extension to Lullier Horticultural College

With low-profile buildings connected by inner walkways, Lullier Horticultural College blends seamlessly into the gently sloping site, in perfect harmony with the surrounding built and natural environment.

This project’s design takes architectural cues from the northern cluster, especially its coping, proportions and interaction with the ground. Standing on the upper part of the site, the two-storey extension wraps around the college’s east wing, with a wide linear patio augmenting the existing walkway.
Rooms are organised around the new library, enhancing the visibility of this meeting place. For continuity’s sake, the HEPIA offices have been placed on the upper floor. Walkways end in openings that provide light and views. The structural framework matches the scale of the existing building, while the sleek reinforced concrete grid is another strong link to the past. Finally, in keeping the existing façades, the extension is crowned with exposed aggregate concrete.
