Bout-du-Monde footbridge, Geneva

The new Bout-du-Monde footbridge is considered a continuation of the existing Vessy bridge. It’s an opportunity to build on the research and work of Robert Maillart.

All of the consideration related to this new project is driven by the desire to have the smallest possible impact on the site and its natural surroundings. The concept presents a fourth arch that continues the principles of the Maillart bridge while using modern techniques and materials. The geometry of the new arch follows that of the existing bridge to the letter. The radically adapted deck illustrates the bridge's material-efficient approach. Streamlining the sections by using high-performance concrete and reused elements makes it possible to significantly reduce the amount of cement used while enabling a high degree of transparency so you can see the existing bridge through it.
