By raising these vertical walls atop new walls, the architectural design draws on the site's past to shape its new identity as the museum’s reception courtyard. It's an immersive entrance that encourages visitors to explore.
Below, the reception pavilion occupies almost the entire space under the courtyard, requiring the underpinning of the historic walls. The reception area is visually linked to the water garden, the starting point for the introductory exhibition. The vertical light coming through the gaps left between the courtyard walls highlights the exhibition spaces and pathways. The glass-covered gallery in front of the cliff allows visitors to contemplate the rocks and plants of nature transformed.
